New Chair - Global Excellence Scholarships Committee

Professor Dolores O'Riordan, Vice-President for Global Engagement, is delighted to confirm that Associate Professor Niamh Moore-Cherry will chair UCD's Global Excellence Scholarships Committee in 2019/20.

Niamh will take over this role from Professor Jeremy Simpson (Vice-Principal (International), UCD College of Science) who has chaired the Committee for several years and has overseen significant quality improvements in the operation of UCD's Global Excellence Scholarships and in the allocation of awards to successive cohorts of international students.

UCD's Global Excellence Scholarships provide 100% and 50% tuition fee awards to non-EU applicants of high academic standing. In summary, they aim to:
  • Attract top performing non-EU applicants;
  • Create interest and awareness of UCD as a study destination;
  • Secure diversity in UCD’s non-EU student profile;
  • Secure UCD’s profile as ‘Ireland’s Global University’.
Niamh is well-suited to this role, given her strong research and teaching interest in student transitions and students as partners. Appointed a Principal Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy in December 2017 in recognition of her international and strategic leadership of university teaching and learning, Niamh is Associate Professor in Urban Governance and Development in the UCD School of Geography. In addition, she currently serves as Vice-Principal for Teaching and Learning in the UCD College of Social Sciences and Law.
