UCD Strengthens Partnerships Globally with Key Partners

UCD has renewed and signed several agreements early this year strengthening the university’s partnership portfolio. UCD renewed a student exchange agreement with the University of Melbourne and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in January. A Pre Masters agreement was signed with Beijing Technology and Business University and a study abroad agreement with Prince Sultan University was also signed in January.

A delegation from Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT) lead by Professor Song Laixin Vice-Chair University Affairs Council, BUCT visited UCD in December. BUCT and UCD signed the renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding signifying the strengthening of the relationship between the two universities. The agreement, to further develop education, innovation and research links between both institutions, builds on a successful partnership between both institutions for almost ten years.

Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT) has a long-established partnership. BUCT has been a strong contributor to the Pre-Masters programme. Several graduates from the UCD-BUCT collaborative programmes have also gone on to undertake PhDs at UCD. The delegation discussed summer schools, future visits and possible research in the areas of biochemical engineering/ material and plans to commemorate 10 years of a successful partnership.

A delegation from Tianjin University visited UCD in January and signed the renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding between both institutions.  Discussions took place around the renewal of the existing student exchange agreement, as well as opportunities for collaboration in the areas of joint PhD programmes and research.

Tianjin University (TJU) is a longstanding and trusted partner of the UCD College of Engineering & Architecture. Professor Fengzhou Fang, Director of UCD Centre of Micro/Nano Manufacturing Technology, joined UCD in 2016. An Inter-Institutional Co-Supervisory Agreement was signed between UCD School of Mechanical & Materials Engineering and TJU School of Precision Instruments & Opto-electronics Engineering in 2018 to facilitate a PhD programme co-supervised by Prof. Michael Gilchrist, Prof. Fengzhou Fang and Professors in TJU.
