Dries Cautreels graduated as a pedagogue in 2005 at Ghent University, more specifically at the special education-disability studies department. He then started his carrier at Heder ((opens in a new window)www.heder.be); a large Antwerp-based care organization providing (specialized and very diverse) care and support to children, youngsters and adults with multiple disabilities. Dries started working as a pedagogue, the last years he was director responsible for the support-policy. Dries started his PhD in March 2022 as a member of the Academic Workspace on Deinstitutionalisation. In his research, he will focus on processes of ‘professionalisation’ in order to reconsider ‘institutional professional cultures and logics’ as a central theme and conceptualise de-institutionalised professionalism as a vital prerequisite to realise deinstitutionalisation.
