US Federal Aid

University College Dublin is approved by the U.S. Department of Education to certify loans under the ‘William D. Ford Direct Loan’ Program. Under this Program, eligible students can obtain federally supported Subsidized & Unsubsidized Direct loans and Direct PLUS loans.  Federally supported loans are made by the US Department of Education rather than by a private lender/bank. More information can be found here.  If you have any questions about US Federal Aid, please contact UCD Global directly by emailing  (opens in a new window)federalaid@ucd.ie

Student Emergency Fund

As a student of University College Dublin, you are expected to have budgeted appropriately and sufficiently before starting your studies here. However, we recognise that financial problems can arise for a number of reasons. To allow for these circumstances, UCD offers a Student Emergency Fund for students to apply for financial assistance.

The purpose of this discretionary fund is to offer financial assistance to students who encounter acute and unexpected difficulties during their time of study in UCD, and who cannot meet these additional costs from other sources.  Illnesses, bereavement and sudden unemployment are some of the issues which may make you eligible for support from the Student Emergency Fund.

To make an application to the Student Emergency Fund, you must clearly demonstrate the acute and unexpected nature to your circumstances. Ongoing low income does not, in and of itself, qualify you for Emergency Fund assistance. Click here to find out more.

Who can apply?

You must be registered to a UCD programme of at least one year’s duration and which leads to either an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification.
