UCD Scholarships for International Students

There are a range of scholarships available for international students studying at UCD. Before applying for a scholarship, you must first apply online to your chosen UCD programmes at www.ucd.ie/apply.

When you have been offered a place in an eligible UCD programme, you can then apply for the scholarship of your choice.

All available scholarships for international students are listed below, once you choose your country from the drop-down menu. You will also find a helpful, step-by-step guide to applying for your scholarship.

UCD Global Scholarships

The scholarships administered by UCD Global are for students who will be charged non-EU fee rates. If a student is charged EU fees following an assessment, they will lose eligibility for the scholarships advertised through UCD Global (though they may still be eligible for other UCD scholarships). Universitas 21 Alumni Scholarship

Universitas 21 Alumni are eligible for 3,000 or 10% tuition fee scholarship. This scholarship is open to all successful applicants to graduate taught masters students who are graduates of a Universitas 21 partner university.

Naughton Fellowships Scholarship

Students who are earning their undergraduate degree from Notre Dame and wish to pursue a Master's degree or Ph.D. may apply for a Naughton Fellowship to study in Ireland. Notre Dame students may study at one of five Irish Universities including UCD.

Irish Aid Fellowship Training Programme Scholarship

Each year, the Irish Aid Fellowship Training Programme brings suitably qualified candidates from developing countries to undertake graduate studies at colleges and universities in Ireland. Awards are made in fields such as development studies, rural development, health care, education and law.

Mitchell Scholars Program

Sponsored by the US-Ireland Alliance The Mitchell Scholars Program is designed to introduce and connect generations of future American leaders to the island of Ireland, while recognising and fostering intellectual achievement, leadership, and a commitment to community and public service.

UCD Past Exchange / Study Abroad Schol

Returning Exchange and Study Abroad students are eligible for a 4,000 tuition fee scholarship.

V.V. Giri Scholarship

In honour of UCD alumnus and fourth president of India, Varahagiri Venkata Giri, UCD invites all successful Indian applicants to eligible full-time programmes are invited to apply to our prestigious V.V. Giri Global Excellence Scholarship. Please see our Global Excellence Scholarship page for more information.

Fulbright Scholarship

Fulbright US student awards (approximately 16,000) enable US graduate students to spend one academic year studying or researching in Ireland. For further details and information on how to apply please visit the Fulbright website.

HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand Scholarship

Open to all successful applicants to one-year full time taught Masters programmes who are citizens of, and resident in Thailand in year of application. Please select the Global Excellence Scholarship and your application will automatically processed for consideration for the HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand Scholarship. Shortlisted candidates will be required to interview in Bangkok as part of application process.

Global Excellence Scholarship (50%)

All successful applicants to eligible full time programs are invited to apply to our prestigious Global Excellence Scholarship. The Scholarship Program is funded by UCD and aims to attract excellent candidates. Applications are open to applicants who already have an offer or conditional offer to study at UCD.

Applicants with the following statuses (Offer, Conditional Offer, Accept or Conditional Accept status) on their application are automatically considered for partial tuition scholarships by our admissions and scholarship committee. Decisions are made based on your submitted application materials.

All successful applicants to eligible full time programs are invited to apply to our prestigious Global Excellence Scholarship. The Scholarship Program is funded by UCD and aims to attract excellent candidates. Applications are open to applicants who already have an offer or conditional offer to study at UCD.

Government of Ireland International Education Scholarships

The Irish Higher Education Authority runs an annual competition to select 60 Government of Ireland International Education Scholars across Ireland. Lochlann Quinn School of Business applicants with the following statuses (Offer, Conditional Offer, Accept or Conditional Accept status) on their application are automatically considered for partial tuition scholarships by our admissions and scholarship committee. Decisions are made based on your submitted application materials.

UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School Scholarships

Students at the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School are invited to apply for a range of scholarships for international students. All scholarships are advertised on the UCD Smurfit Scholarships website.

UCD IFY Scholarship

The UCD International Foundation Year Scholarship is awarded to students entering UCD through the International Foundation Year pathway programme. The scholarship is awarded at entry to the Foundation Year and lasts for the duration of the student's programme.

Your International Scholarship Step-by-Step

    • Step 1: Apply to study at UCD

      Apply for your UCD programme at least three weeks before the scholarship’s closing date. Only applicants who have received an offer for an eligible UCD programme can apply for an international student scholarship.

    • Step 2: Review the terms and conditions of UCD's scholarships

      All UCD and UCD Global Scholarship terms and conditions are available online. Applications that do not meet the requirements outlined will be automatically disregarded. If an applicant is awarded more than one scholarship offer, they will receive the scholarship of greater financial value. Additionally, some scholarships are for self-funding candidates only. You may only apply for the scholarship with your first choice course, not to multiple courses.

    • Step 3: Apply for relevant scholarships

      Once you have received an offer to an eligible UCD programme, you will be able to apply for relevant scholarships through the UCD SISWeb applications portal. Offer holders are also automatically considered for partial Global Scholarships. All scholarship decisions are made based on your submitted application materials. You may apply for more than one scholarship if you meet the eligibility criteria for each scholarship.

    • Check before submitting

      Once submitted, scholarship applications cannot be edited. Please ensure you take the time to check you are satisfied with your application before you submit it. Our scholarship committee cannot change your form once you have submitted it. You cannot send a second application for the same scholarship. We can, with your permission, delete your application and you can start again.

    • Step 4: Receive an answer

      Within five weeks from the deadline for applications, UCD Global will update the status of your scholarship application. You can review your application by logging into the UCD SISWeb applications portal. Under the ‘UCD Applications’ heading, you can view the status of each of your applications by clicking on ‘My Applications’.

    • Step 5: Accept your scholarship

      If you are offered a full or partial scholarship, you must accept this offer by the specified method within two weeks of the notification. It is your responsibility to complete the required actions. A non-response will be considered as declining the offer. Students who defer their offer, or accept their offer after the deadline for their scholarship, will not retain the scholarship.

    • Step 6: Keep us informed

      Most of UCD Global’s scholarships are awarded for a specified programme and start date. If you plan to change your UCD programme or defer your entry, please let us know as this may affect your scholarship. Make sure to check the terms and conditions for your scholarship to see what limits apply.

Maintaining your Scholarship

The terms and conditions will vary depending on the scholarship you are awarded. Please note that there are some general conditions that apply to all UCD Global's scholarships including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Minimum GPA requirements: Students must maintain a Stage GPA of no less than 3.08 to keep their scholarship;
  • Progression: Students must take a standard credit load for the stage they are enrolled in and should progress within the standard timeframe for their programme. Students enrolled in less than 50 ECTS per year may automatically lose their scholarship;
  • Full-time enrolment requirement;
  • The requirement to act as an Ambassador for UCD by participating in student panels, focus groups, blogs and other activities as requested by UCD Global.
