Women in the Sciences

UCD Women in the Sciences (WiTS) is a network of female academics, postdocs and postgraduate students in the College of Science, University College Dublin (UCD). We aim to recognise the achievements of women in Science & Technology and to empower female scientists in UCD to engage equally in all aspects of scientific and academic life.

To this end, in 2013 we have launched a lunchtime UCD WiTS programme that merges broader networking events with a seminar series celebrating the success, both nationally and internationally, of female scientists.

We are engaged nationally with funding agencies and other Higher Education Institutions to facilitate the extension of the UK Athena SWAN charter to Irish HEIs. The Athena SWAN charter promotes good practice in the employment and retention of women in science, engineering, technology, medicine and Mathematics (STEMM) in UK HEIs.
