The UCD Centre for English and Global Languages (formerly Applied Language Centre) has been offering TESOL programmes and engaged in language teacher education since 1989. In 1997, when the Daedalus Building was opened, it was the first purpose built language teaching centre in the country and remains an architecturally impressive hub in the centre of the campus. We are currently involved in a number of research projects concerning the relationship between language proficiency, academic success and employment after university, and the academic faculty are actively engaged in publishing their work.
The 16th European Association of Language Testing and Assessment (EALTA) conference 2019 was hosted by the Applied Language Centre MA TESOL team in UCD from May 31 to June 2 2019. The event was attended by 220 participants from 34 countries. The plenary speakers delivered outstanding plenaries on critical developments in language testing and assessment. The pre-conference workshops, SIG meetings and parallel presentations were of a particularly high standard and covered changing aspects of language testing and assessment such as classroom based assessment, language testing for migrants, eye tracking studies and much more.
