About

Welcome

Established in 1989, the UCD Centre for English and Global Languages (formerly Applied Language Centre) is engaged in a wide range of high-quality language offerings across many of UCD's activities.  In 1997, when the Daedalus Building was opened, it was the first purpose-built language teaching centre in the country and remains an architecturally impressive hub in the centre of the campus.  We are involved in many activities including the provision of English language programmes for second-language speakers of English who wish to gain entry to the university via our International Pathway Pre-Masters and Pre-sessional programmes. We run a successful Global Language Module programme, with approximately 2,000 module places in 14 different languages on an annual basis, making us one of the largest elective providers in University College Dublin. We have also been engaged in language teacher education since 1989, most notably through our TESOL graduate programmes.
