Valorisation of AD by-products

AD Abstract

The ongoing war in Ukraine has highlighted the fragility of the EU’s natural-gas supply chain. Anaerobic Digestion (AD) produces renewable gas from local agri-food waste and is critical to Ireland’s and EU’s energy security and decarbonisation. The process, however, generates CO2 and nutrient-rich slurries (or liquid digestate). The project aims to develop scalable biorefinery processes using microalgae to valorise AD waste into feed products.
