BuildDigital

The Build Digital Alliance has a mission to unite all construction and built environment stakeholders in the drive towards integrated interoperation digital data adoption across the sector to innovatively improve efficiency, productivity and international competitiveness on a sustainable basis in Ireland. The project will leverage a incremental innovation approach to ensure that all stakeholders, particularly those in need of additional support such as SMEs and clients, are fully supported during the digital transformation of Ireland’s construction and built environment sector.

Europe is currently in the midst of two transitions, which are both complementary to each other but are rarely aligned; namely the creation of a circular economy and the ever-evolving digital revolution. Both can be said to be independently aiming to transform our society, working lives and the economy. The built environment sector is uniquely placed to maximise the synergies between these transitions towards digitalisation and the circular economy. Both transformations require a reorientation of the value chain and working practices towards more open, transparent, and collaborative approaches, which will require a significant culture change. Additionally, there is a symbiotic opportunity to review the digital transition through a sustainability lens.

Objectives and the main deliverables for the Sustainability Pillar of the Build Digital project (team of 3 people) are as follows:

  • Horizon scan and detailed needs analysis jointly undertake with DASBE focusing on the synergies between built environment digitalization, sustainability, climate action, the SDGs, and the circular economy.
  • Design of a Framework for Digitalization for a Circular Economy (DiCE) industry toolkit.
  • Design of a Framework for Digitalization for a Circular Economy (DiCE) education toolkit.
  • Pilot the Digitalization for a Circular Economy (DiCE) industry toolkit on selected living lab case studies as follows:
  • Specific purpose ‘Snapshot’ living lab case studies, where interventions will be designed and piloted with different stakeholder groups or at different project phases with shorter feedback loops i.e., local authorities reviewing tools for planning purposes or design teams reviewing tools during the design phase.
  • Full lifecycle living lab case studies, where interventions will be designed, piloted and benchmarked throughout identified ‘lighthouse’ case studies.
  • Development of a Digitalization for a Circular Economy (DiCE) industry toolkit.
  • Development of a Digitalization for a Circular Economy (DiCE) education toolkit
