‘The mechanics of electing a US President’: Seminar with Judge Patricia M Lucas
In October 2024, the Centre was delighted to host a fascinating and timely seminar on the mechanics of the system to elect the US President. Judge Patricia M Lucas, a retired Judge of the Californian Superior Courts delivered a paper on "The Process of Electing the U.S. President: Ever wonder why the person who gets the most votes does not necessarily become the U.S. President?". In her talk, she explained the historical and political reasons for the Electoral College, and considered the prospects for alternative methods being adopted in the future in the US.
Judge Lucas was recently appointed an Adjunct Full Professor for a 5-year term with UCD Sutherland School of Law.
