Course Information

Over the duration of this carefully crafted program, students will embark on a transformative learning journey. This course has been designed to offer a truly interdisciplinary program where data science, machine learning, medical sciences, and creativity intercept.

This course will equip students with the skills to use the latest data science tools and design concepts and apply them to real life societal issues.

Core modules:

  1. Design --- How should we think about information presentation? How can information be presented for best impact & understanding?
  2. Data Science --- What are the most important data science tools and skills that every college graduate should have?
  3. Discovery --- We will apply our newly acquired data science skills to both historically important as well are currently cutting edge data problems to re-discover and discover new results (and we will focus on how the presentation of the results is an important part of the discovery & understanding process).

An essential element of the UCD Design, Data Science and Discovery is for students to experience Irish society and culture. As part of this Programme, a series of excursions are planned to enable you to explore and immerse yourself in Irish culture. Attendance of some of the trips is mandatory, as the trips form part of the course. Other trips and organized social activities are optional, but strongly encouraged. This will provide you with firsthand experience of the historic and cultural sites that surround you.

The Design, Data Science and Discovery tuition fees for 2024 are €3,300 Euro. These fees cover all course teaching and course excursions.

Accommodation fees are separate and may be booked through Summer at UCD.

We look forward to welcoming you to our vibrant University campus. This course is taught in the O'Brien Centre for Science at UCD with state of the art classrooms, lecture theatres, labs and meeting spaces.

The campus has so much to offer with walking trails, running track, gym and olympic size swimming pool, cafes, cinema and supermarkets.

The campus is located just south of the city centre and is well serviced by public transport. The city centre is a 30 minute journey by bus.
