WellFed

This study is looking to see if a new food supplement can support better breastfeeding outcomes in women.

This Study is Now Closed.

Who are we looking for?mothers hands and baby feet

We are seeking healthy single-baby pregnant mothers or mothers who gave birth within the last 4 weeks and have successfully breastfed a child before to participate in the WellFed study. Mothers must be aged 18-49 years old and live in Dublin and surrounding areas.

What’s involved?

The WellFed study will ask women to take the supplement or placebo every day for a month. The study will also involve a home visit by a registered midwife at the start and end of the study. For each visit, you will be asked to provide a breastmilk, blood and faecal sample and a faecal sample from your baby’s nappy.

All women participating in the study will receive a breastfeeding consultation with a lactation consultant before they start taking their capsules.

Who is leading this research?

This study is led by Dr Aifric O’Sullivan with Assoc Prof Sharleen O’Reilly and Prof Torres Sweeney within UCD’s Institute of Food and Health. The study is funded by Enterprise Ireland’s Technology Centre, Food for Health Ireland.
