Policy Impact

The dissemination of independent, empirical policy-relevant research to policymakers, academics, and other stakeholders is imperative to ensure that the findings contribute to contemporary policy debates and meaningfully impact public policy. Dissemination activities includes through original, expert policy papers on our online platform publicpolicy.ie, providing guidance on maximising policy impact for UCD researchers through toolkits and policy brief templates, hosting events that focus on influencing policy through academic research, and through our social media presence. You can find more information on these areas below.

Dissemination Activities

PublicPolicy.ie is the online platform for informing academic and contemporary debates about public policy in Ireland.
Established in 2012 with support  from Atlantic Philanthropies, it was incorporated  into the Geary Institute for Public Policy at UCD in 2019.
PublicPolicy.ie aims to provide independent evidence to inform economic, social and environmental policies and to communicate relevant research findings to policymakers and interested citizens in an accessible way. Through PublicPolicy.ie, Irish policymakers can source a range of material, including original policy papers from leading expert researchers in UCD and the wider academic community, and policy-relevant external reports.
PublicPolicy.ie is independent, has no party political association or view and is not aligned with any sectional interest.
Please read our latest policy papers here.

Communication to policymakers requires a different style and focus from academic
communications. Please find some materials to help create and maximise the policy impact of
research.
Additionally, you can find a number of useful materials on informing policy through academic
research at https://www.ucd.ie/promoteyourresearch/reachout/informpolicy/

Publicpolicy.ie hosts events to help the Geary Fellows and wider research community to
maximise their research in terms of policy impact and to connect academics and policymakers who
are working on policy issues that are at the forefront of public discourse  in Ireland.
