What is Enterprise Architecture?

Enterprise Architecture is an integrated approach to designing and evolving UCD’s business, data, application, and technology domains to effectively support the delivery of the digital campus experience and the implementation of the UCD Strategy.

It establishes a culture, a shared language and methodology for developing UCD’s digital architecture.

How Are We Doing This?

At a high level this involves;

  • Providing Digital Application Governance, Enterprise Architecture Principles and Non-Functional Requirements to help inform, guide and govern the design and deployment of applications across the University
  • Maintaining an Application Portfolio, identifying all the Applications in use in UCD, with detailed overview including ownership
  • Mapping applications to Business Capabilities (using the HERM Business Reference Model)
  • Identifying the Technical Products that underpin the applications
  • Capturing Data Flows for applications, including the data objects and interfaces
  • Applying Application Portfolio Management techniques to determine rationalisation recommendations for applications
  • Maintaining an Architecture Roadmap outlining our planned transition from the current state to the desired future state
