James Joyce Library Works - Summer 2025
Please note there will be unavoidable disruption to onsite services in the James Joyce Library throughout summer 2025. All books must be requested in advance of your visit. Please email libraryinfo@ucd.ie for more information
Planned disruption to library services from 19 May - 1 September
UCD Library is continuing with the phased redevelopment of the James Joyce Library, and during the quieter summer period a number of disruptive projects including major collection moves will take place. Works will begin on Monday 19th May and will continue through to 1st September.
During this time, there will be unavoidable disruption to onsite services including:
- The temporary closure of Level 2, Level 4 and the Hub 2 on Level 1, from 19th May - 1st September 2025.
- Library collections will be fully accessible through a retrieval service. Email libraryinfo@ucd.ie with your request.
- Study spaces will remain available on Level 1 and Level 3.
- The Postgraduate Research Centre will be temporarily relocated from Level 2 to Level 3 (see map below). Reserve your space via the Booking System.
- The Group Study Rooms on Level 2 will be unavailable.
- There will be noise from demolition works from 19th May – 9th June.
- The Short Loan Collection will be integrated into the General Collections, and some collections will be relocated, with the goal of achieving a logical Dewey-based sequence across Level 4 (Dewey 000-399) and Level 2 (Dewey 400-999).
The Library team will be on hand responding to any queries or concerns, and ensuring that core library services are maintained. Queries regarding book retrieval can be directed to libraryinfo@ucd.ie.
The completion of these works over the summer period enables library staff to continue to deliver a high quality library service during the teaching terms. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this period of disruption and look forward to improving the Library experience for all through our ongoing redevelopment project.
