Dublin GAA appoints Ger Brennan as senior football manager
14 August 2025
UCD GAA Executive Ger Brennan is the new manager of Dublin GAA’s senior footballers.
A two-time All-Ireland winner as a player, the former centre-back for the Boys in Blue recently guided Louth to a long-awaited Leinster title.
It was the county's first senior provincial champion in almost 70 years, and was the first time a team other than Dublin claimed the title since 2010.
"I feel very fortunate to have been given this opportunity to continue to build and add to the success of my predecessors, a couple of great men who I've been fortunate enough to play under," Brennan told DubsTV.
"As a player myself, something we were always taught by managers and coaches, was try to leave the jersey in a better place.
"That's something I'll be working hard at. To ensure that when my term comes to an end that I've been able to build on the success of my predecessors."
Ger will take the helm with Dublin in the wake of Dessie Farrell's departure after six years in charge of the senior footballers.
Confirming the appointment, Dublin GAA chairman Ken O’Sullivan said: “Ger has achieved the highest honours as a player with Dublin and he has our full support in leading the Dublin Senior Football panel in pursuit of further honours in the coming years.
“We wish Ger, his team and the panel the very best and look forward to the 2026 season”.
In 2015, Brennan took up his role at UCD as the GAA Executive with UCD Sport – a post previously held by his close mentor and former Dublin GAA selector, Dave Billings.
"The thing I love, whether it’s coaching or management, and certainly in my role in UCD over the last 10 years, is that you pick up so many wonderful, new things from different players," he said.
"And if you look at the profile of the current Dublin senior football team, there’s a wealth of knowledge there, a wealth of success that has been built up, so we’ll see if we can marry some of those ideas together.
Adding: "[With] my third-level hat on with UCD, I’ve been fortunate to work with some wonderful players from Dublin and I’m looking forward to reacquainting myself with some of those players again."
