Joseph Twist

‌I am joining the School as a fixed-term Lecturer in German, having previously taught at Manchester (where I completed my PhD in 2015), Chester, NUI Galway and Limerick. In broad terms, I have a scholarly interest in the intersection of philosophy, religion and literature. My current research project focuses on the interaction between mystical and postmodern thought in the work of contemporary German authors of varying Muslim backgrounds, and my monograph on this subject, Mystical Islam and Cosmopolitanism in Contemporary German Literature: Openness to Alterity, will be published next year. I am also currently at the beginning of a new project on the everyday in contemporary German literature. Alongside language teaching, I will be delivering two research-led modules: 'Transcultural Encounters 1: Turkish German Poetry' and 'Transcultural Encounters 2: Islam in Germany'. ‌
