Cathal Billings

Cathal Billings is a lecturer in Modern Irish at UCD, where he is Director of the de Bhaldraithe Centre for Irish Language Scholarship and Academic Director of the MA in Irish Writing and Communications. He is a graduate of UCD (BA, 2006; MA, 2007; PhD, 2014) and is interested primarily in the social and political history of the Irish language revival, Irish sports history and translation. He is currently writing a monograph on the impact of the South African War (1899-1902) on the Irish language revival, and has recently published articles on the same topic in Australasian Journal of Irish studies, Éigse: a Journal of Irish studies, and Comhar Taighde.
