Paul Huddie

Paul Huddie

Dr Huddie is a historical researcher interested in war and society, principally within the British Empire in the long 19c. He is a graduate of UCD (BA, 2008; MA 2009) and Queen's University Belfast (2014) and is the founder and co-ordinator of both the (opens in a new window)Military Welfare History Network and (opens in a new window)the International Network for Crimean War Studies

He is the author of (opens in a new window)The Crimean War and Irish Society (2015) and his research has been published in several edited volumes and multiple peer-reviewed journals, including the British Journal for Military History, Women’s History Review, Irish Economic and Social History, and Mariner’s Mirror. He is also the co-editor of the (opens in a new window)2023 special issue of War & Society, (opens in a new window)New Perspectives on Conflict and Ireland in the Nineteenth Century and the forthcoming Military Welfare History since the Eighteenth Century: War and Welfare (via Palgrave Macmillan).

He is also an EARMA-certified Research Manager and is currently working as the Project Manager on Prof Robert Gerwarth’s European Research Council-funded project, ‘The Age of Civil Wars in Europe, c. 1914-1949’ (2022-27) ((opens in a new window)CivilWars), as well as the UCD projects ANSOC and ABSOLUTE.
