On Wednesday, 16 November 2022, the UCD Engineering Graduates Association were delighted to meet with Ciaran Connell & Michael McLaughlin at a luncheon event.

This luncheon was to mark the presentation of the Distinguished Graduate Award to these two UCD Engineering Graduates who have gone on to achieve remarkable careers. Originally awarded in 2021, the EGA was unable at the time to hold an in-person award ceremony to mark the occasion due to Covid-19 restrictions in place. This luncheon was held in the University Club on Belfield Campus with members of the UCD Engineering Graduates Association and faculty from the UCD School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering.

The Distinguished Graduate Award is presented to a UCD Engineering graduate in recognition of the achievement and outstanding contribution they have made to society. Both Ciaran and Michael have amassed years of experience in the communications and semiconductor industry, co-founding Decawave in 2007, a company which develops semiconductor solutions, software, modules and reference designs that enable real-time, ultra-accurate, ultra reliable local area micro-location  services.
