Biography:
Lynn Clarke-Hearty is a PhD candidate at the Sutherland School of Law, University College Dublin (UCD). She completed a B.A. in Economics, Politics and Law at Dublin City University (DCU), attaining a First-Class Honours. She also holds a LL.M in Criminology and Criminal Justice from UCD (2021) and was awarded the UCD Sutherland School of Law Doctoral Scholarship to pursue her PhD research (2022).
Lynn lectures and tutors at the Sutherland School of Law, UCD and has worked as a research assistant with the School of Social Policy, Social Work and Social Justice, UCD.
With an interest in harm reduction strategy, trauma-informed practice, and person-centred care, Lynn has undertaken professional training in ‘Childhood Trauma, Consequences and Essential Responses’ with University College Cork; Victim Services and Care with San Francisco’s District Attorney; as well as CPD training in ‘Domestic Abuse through Coercive Control’. She has also been trained in Crisis Intervention and Mental Health Awareness.
Lynn’s undergraduate dissertation critically reflected on the Dóchas Centre, one of Ireland’s women’s prisons, and evaluated its abilities in meeting the needs of women prisoners in Ireland. Her postgraduate research dissertation examined effective and holistic responses to justice-involved women with a focus on the One-Stop-Shop model facility. Lynn’s doctoral studies build upon both her undergraduate and postgraduate research dissertations. This research will enable Lynn to specialise further in criminology and law, to inform policy and contribute to reforming the criminal justice system in Ireland.
