UCD Science Open Evening

The evening will cover degrees in DN200 Science, DN230 Actuarial & Financial Studies and DN201 Computer Science. It will comprise a series of talks from graduates and current students, a chance to meet lecturers and a talk by the Dean of Science on the UCD Science degrees.

This is evening is for 5th & 6th year students, A-Level students, FETAC students, Mature applicants, parents and teachers.

An evening to meet staff, alumni and current students from the UCD School of Mathematics and Statistics to hear about the following degrees in DN200 Science: Applied & Computational Mathematics, Financial Mathematics, Mathematics, Mathematical Science, Statistics and our suite of Science & Mathematics Education courses, in addition to DN230 Actuarial & Financial Studies.

2018 UCD Intel Masters Scholars Information Meeting and Q&A

The 2018 UCD Intel Masters Scholars invite you to come fly with them a​​t 2pm in UCD O’Brien Centre for Science for Sky’s The Limit on Friday 6 April.

The event will kick off in the Moore Auditorium where special guest speakers will soar in for a panel discussion spanning everything from Intel’s pioneering research and development, cutting edge technology and robotics followed by a Q&A session.

Open to undergraduates and graduate students in the Colleges of Science and Engineering, the panel will be addressed by the UCD Intel Masters Scholars keeping it fresh for students in the worlds of Science, Engineering and Technology.

Then all will glide over to Zone 1 of O’Brien Centre for Science with Intel Movidius Research Engineer Sam Caulfield and Drone Pilot Evan O’Keefe for UCD’s first ever Drone Showcase.

The event will conclude as we float away with Music, Food, Coffee & Dronenuts.​

Mathematics Enrichment Classes

The School of Mathematics and Statistics provides Mathematical Enrichment classes on Saturday mornings from 10.00 AM to 1.00 PM. Our classes are designed to develop a sound understanding of mathematics and improve problem-solving skills. There is little overlap with the maths taught in school.  There is no charge for this event.

Other Activities that the School is Involved with in 2016-2017     

Maths Sparks
The School of Mathematics and Statistics runs a series of extra-curricular mathematics workshops for senior cycle post-primary students. Designed and delivered by students in the UCD School of Mathematics and Statistics, the series of Maths Sparks problem solving workshops aims to bring the wonder of mathematics to life through interactive and engaging activities, and talks from mathematics graduates and professors. Workshops are held one evening per week for 6 weeks and resources are made available for teachers or other institutions to use.

There is no charge for this event.

That's Maths Blog

Professor Peter Lynch has a twice-monthly column "That's Maths" on the science page of the Irish Times (first and third Thursday each month). This is aimed to try to assist public understanding of matters mathematical. The blog is available at thatsmaths.com

Science Outreach Events

 Undergraduate Ambassador Scheme Module 30060

 The Undergraduate Ambassadors Scheme (UAS) module is a module offered by the UCD School of Mathematics and Statistics, University College Dublin. This module offers Stage 3 or Stage 4 undergraduates who have taken an appropriate level of undergraduate mathematics, the chance to work with mathematics teachers and students in local secondary schools. The undergraduate receives five academic credits for successful completion of the module and this contributes towards his or her final degree.
