Heritage Conservation and Traditional Fabrics

BIACE is keenly engaged in the conservation of our built environment and the adaptive reuse of vacant and obsolete buildings. We have undertaken analysis of, and designed interventions for, traditional, historic and modern buildings.

BIACE has received funding from the Sustainable Authority of Ireland for the FabTrads project which will evaluate the hygrothermal properties of a wide range of historic and traditional construction types. The performance of these walls is currently poorly understood and quantified in the national DEAP calculation methodology and hence evaluation of traditional building performance is inaccurate. The FabTrads project aims to enhance knowledge and understanding of the operational performance of traditional and historic buildings through testing and analysis of their fabrics.

Through the (opens in a new window)EU Green Deal funded ProBono project we will evaluate key historic municipal buildings and identify optimum retrofit strategies to bring these buildings to nZEB.
