UCD, as part of its Global Engagement 2021-2024 Strategy, aspires to the development of global skills and competences within its entire community. We are committed to fostering an inclusive, integrated multicultural environment, and enabling students, faculty and staff to gain a deeper understanding of the world. It is in this context that UCD is excited to announce, in collaboration with the China Scholarship Council, the 2022 UCD-China Link Outward Mobility Scholarship

Based on Agreements/MOUs between the China Scholarship Council (CSC) and its European partners including University College Dublin, this programme is designed to enhance sustainable and long-term research collaborations and outbound academic staff and research student mobility between European universities and their strategic partner universities in China.

The Scholarship: Noting This competition is closed for 2022/23

20 UCD-CSC China-Link scholarships are available for UCD research students or academic staff to undertake a period of study or research at one of UCD’s Chinese partner universities. The UCD China-Link Scholarship scheme is open to

  1. individual fulltime research students,
  2. individual full time academic or professional staff
  3. a group of fulltime research students and academic staff

The research visit can be taken from September 2022 at any time throughout the academic year 2022/23. The research visit can be anything from one to twelve months inclusive. The research can be in any discipline other than the Chinese language.

The Funding

  • Successful applicant will receive a full scholarship from CSC during their stay in China, including: -
    • Tuition fee (if applied) –
    • Free on-campus accommodation –
    • Monthly stipend of CNY 3,000 (~€400) –
    • Comprehensive medical insurance (conditional on submission of medical examination form)
  • Successful UCD research students will receive a €1000 UCD bursary toward their travel to and from China.
  • These scholarships are open to all UCD research students and we encourage all those interested to apply. We are keen to ensure that there are no financial barriers to participation in this scheme and additional funding is available to assist with travel costs. 

Application process:

You will need a letter of invitation from the Chinese partner institution to apply for this scholarship. To this end, please engage with your partner to obtain this letter. The invitation letter must include (i) your full name, (ii) refer to the ucd china link scholarship, (iii) provide the dates and (iv) the area of study / research that you will focus on and (v) working language that you use.  

Securing a UCD-China Link Scholarship is a two-step process:

Step 1: The applicant(s) applies to UCD  through the online application form  by the 31st January 2022 and the 20 highest scoring submissions will be selected for nomination to the CSC

Step 2:  The 20 UCD nominees make an application to the CSC
