Replacement of Sophos Endpoint Security and Control

Sophos Endpoint Security and Control has been retired. Computers with this product installed will no longer receive antivirus updates.

Under the new license agreement, UCD Staff are entitled to replace previous versions with Sophos Intercept X. Students and Pensioners are licensed to download and install Sophos Home for Commercial Use Edition on personal devices as a replacement for Sophos Endpoint Security and Control.

How to know if you need to update your version of Sophos

Windows users can simply hover over the Sophos icon in the taskbar on their desktop. Please note that the Sophos icon may be hidden. To unhide the Sophos icon click on ^. If Sophos Protection is the name of the Sophos icon in your taskbar, Sophos Endpoint Security and Control is installed, you will need to replace this product.

If Sophos Endpoint Agent is the name of the Sophos icon in your taskbar, Sophos Intercept X Advanced is installed and you do not need to install any further antivirus software.

If Sophos Home is the name of the Sophos icon in your taskbar, Sophos Home Commercial Use Edition is installed and you do not need to install any further antivirus software.

Apple Mac users can click on the Sophos icon on the menu bar at the top of the screen and then click on About Sophos Anti-Virus. If your computer is running Sophos Ant-Virus Version 9 you will need to replace this product.

What does Sophos Intercept X Advanced do?

Sophos Intercept X Advanced is the next generation antivirus that includes anti-ransomware technology that detects malicious encryption processes and shuts them down before they can spread across computer networks. 

It prevents both file-based and master boot record ransomware.

Licencing

Sophos Intercept X Advanced is licensed for computers used by active staff. For students and pensioners, please see below for information on Sophos for personal computers.

How will I update my Sophos to Sophos Intercept X Advanced?

UCD Staff have received emails from (opens in a new window)noreply@sophos.com which included installation instructions and links to install Sophos Intercept X Advanced on Windows and macOS. Active Staff who did not receive an email or wish to receive the email again can request the installer from the IT Support Hub http://www.ucd.ie/ithelp

What should I do if I am not licensed for Sophos Intercept X Advanced?

It is important that antivirus software is installed on every workstation. 

Students and Pensioners can download and install Sophos Home Commercial Use Edition. Please note that all competitive antivirus/anti-malware products  (e.g. Norton, Malwarebytes, McAfee) must be removed from your home computer before Sophos Home can be installed . To access this software register with your UCD email address by visiting (opens in a new window)https://home.sophos.com/employee

Once registered, you will be able to install Sophos Home Commercial Use Edition on up to 10 personal devices.

Sophos Intercept X for iOS and Android can be downloaded from the App Store and the Play Store.
