Congratulations to Adam Heffernan, winner of the Peter A. Start Medal for the UCD Certificate in Safety and Health at Work, 2022-23.

This award is given to the student on the UCD Certificate in Safety and Health at Work programme who achieves the highest GPA and for whom this is their first experience at third level (i.e., students who have not previously completed a programme at Level 7 or above). The award supports lifelong learning and demonstrates the University’s strategy of widening participation.

At the recent ceremony, Dr Conor Buggy, Programme Director of the Certificate in Safety and Health at Work, and Director of the Centre for Safety and Health at Work (CSHW), spoke warmly of Peter Start’s legacy. Peter was founder member of the CSHW, a senior lecturer in Chemistry and the University’s Safety officer. Dr Buggy thanked the family of Peter Start for their attendance at the event and for funding the award.
