Horizon Europe's 'horizontal pillar' will increase support to EU Member States in their efforts to make the most of their national research and innovation potential, to foster closer collaborations and to spread excellence. Work programmes under the headings 'Widening Participation and Spreading Execllence' and 'Reforming and Enhancing the European Research and Innovation System' is now published by the European Commission and is available here.
The Horizon Europe Missions are a new innitiative from the European Commission to tackle big challenges and achieve ambitious goals in the areas of health, climate and the environment by 2030.
Five Missions have been identified:
They support Commission priorities, such as the European Green Deal, Europe fit for the Digital Age, Beating Cancer and the New European Bauhaus. For instance, Mission Climate is already a concrete element of the new Climate Adaptation Strategy, Mission Cancer of the Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan and the Mission Soil is a flagship initiative of the Long-term Vision for the EU’s Rural Areas.
