This workshop is aimed at those who are planning to work toward a UCD T&L digital badge on this topic, i.e. ‘Teaching in Active and Collaborative Learning Spaces’. Prior to booking the workshop, please read more on the digital badge requirements.
This three hour in-person workshop is a mandatory element of an associated digital badge, which aims:
1. To describe the value and challenges of active and collaborative learning, as evidenced by the literature.
2. To discuss, with peers, a range of active and collaborative methods that support student learning in the ALE, i.e. think-pair-share, peer review, debates, group discussion, group work, debates, interactive in-class polls/quizzes, etc.
3. To critique the ‘grand’ learning designs, (i.e. problem, project, enquiry/research, case based learning) and how activity in the ALE space is aligned with learning pre and post this experience, i.e. blended, flipped learning designs.
4. To critically reflect on how you could design and implement one/two methods for more active and collaborative student learning in your discipline, in particular how you would support and prepare students.
There will also be pre-reading and a follow up task (a Session Planning Template) required to obtain the digital badge. For more details on the digital badge’s linked activities and web-resources, see UCD T&L Teaching in Active and Collaborative Learning Spaces web-pages.
The Audience for this workshop is:
a) UCD Staff only, who aim to complete the associated digital badge, and who
b) Teach in these Active Learning spaces (ALEs), which includes for example, UCD Faculty, academic staff, tutors, demonstrators, professional staff who teach.
Event facilitators: Geraldine O’Neill and David Jennings, UCD Teaching & Learning.
