UCD in the Community Volunteering Awards

Overview of Award:

The UCD in the Community Student Volunteering Awards aim to celebrate and recognise student volunteering in the community (with volunteer-involving organisations) and in UCD activities, such as clubs, societies, peer mentoring, class representatives and the SU.

There are three awards available to UCD students, Bronze, Silver and Gold as outlined below:

BRONZE:  20 hours of volunteering

SILVER:  40 hours of volunteering

GOLD:  60+ hours of volunteering

All types of volunteering are recognised, perhaps you volunteer with your local sports club, or in a nursing home, maybe you did some remote volunteering online or some fundraising for a charity, or you could have volunteered with a social justice or environmental group. You may have volunteered in Dublin, in UCD, in your hometown or internationally.

To apply for the 2022/23 awards you will need to track and log any hours spent volunteering between 1 June 2022 - Wednesday 31 May 2023 inclusive.

  • UCD students have the opportunity to earn a Bronze, Silver or Gold award every year, a minimum of 20 hours of volunteering activity is needed to apply
  • For the 2022/23 Awards, volunteering hours must be completed between 1st June 2022 to 31st May 2023 inclusive
  • You do not have to get a Bronze or Silver award before applying for a Gold
  • The volunteering role/task undertaken must be extra-curricular and without payment or course credit
  • Please only include volunteering from your time as a UCD student - you can also include summer volunteering, outside of UCD during the dates outlined above
  • The award is awarded to students who have completed an application form with reflective questions (available from the UCD in the Community website here) and have their volunteering hours logged on www.StudentVolunteer.ie/ucd and signed off by their volunteering supervisor/volunteering organisation contact.

The closing date for applications is Friday, 2nd June 2023

STEP 3:

To be eligible for an Award, STEP 1 and STEP 2 must be completed by Friday, 30 June 2023.

STEP 4:

All completed forms will be reviewed by the UCD in the Community team and once signed off you will receive confirmation of your award via email.

STEP 5:

The Awards ceremony will take place in the Academic term 2023/2024.

Note:

The applicant should log their volunteering hours on www.StudentVolunteer.ie/ucd, and complete the application form on the UCD in the Community website, providing evidence of reflection on how they are different from before they volunteered (e.g. what have they learned and how have their attitudes changed) and how the organisation/individual has benefitted from the applicant’s involvement.

  1. First of all you need to register on StudentVolunteer.ie here.
  2. Then log your volunteering hours:
  • If you have completed volunteering hours through an opportunity that was posted on StudentVolunteer.ie you can log your hours under that opportunity in your dashboard. To view your dashboard you must first log in using your email and password.
  • Have you completed volunteering that you didn't apply for via StudentVolunteer.ie? That's no problem! You can still keep track of your volunteering hours by using the 'Log Additional Volunteering Hours' section on your dashboard. Please check out our video here on how to do this.
  • Once your hours are logged, UCD in the Community will confirm those hours with the organisation and/or UCD contact that you have provided contact details for.

After you have logged your hours, make sure that you complete the UCD in the Community Volunteering Awards form.
