Interpreting Equine Blood Results
Enhance your confidence in reading and understanding equine blood test results.
Through this webinar you will learn to:
● Recognise normal reference ranges for commonly used haematology and
biochemistry parameters in adult horses and foals.
● Interpret patterns indicative of common conditions such as inflammation,
dehydration, anaemia and renal liver or muscle disease.
● Differentiate between significant abnormalities and incidental findings based
on patient history and presentation.
● Understand the limitations and appropriate use of common diagnostic tests,
including haematology, serum biochemistry, fibrinogen, SAA and endocrine
tests.
● Communicate blood test findings clearly to clients, including the clinical
relevance and recommended next steps.
Colic: Medical & Surgical Management
Build your confidence in colic management. Through this webinar you will learn to:
● Recognise and classify the common types of equine colic based on clinical
presentation and diagnostic findings.
● Conduct a structured and efficient clinical examination of the colic case in the
field, including key diagnostic techniques such as rectal examination,
nasogastric intubation, and abdominal auscultation.
● Interpret diagnostic findings to assess severity and likely cause.
● Implement appropriate first opinion treatment protocols for common colic
scenarios, including analgesia, fluid therapy, and safe transport preparations.
● Make timely and evidence-based referral decisions, recognising red flags for
surgical or intensive medical management.
● Communicate effectively with clients about treatment options, prognosis,
costs, and risks associated with both field treatment and referral.
Equine Wound Management
Strengthen your skills in equine wound management with this focused webinar
designed to teach you how to:
● Demonstrate appropriate initial wound assessment and triage with specific
attention to involvement of synovial structures.
● Select and apply appropriate wound management techniques in the first
opinion setting.
● Understand the appropriate antimicrobial use in equine wounds.
● Recognise complications of wound healing and their appropriate
management.
Good Foundations for Equine Reproduction
Gain a solid foundation in equine reproduction with this practical webinar,
where you will learn to:
● Utilise the normal reproductive cycle of the mare to maximal clinical
benefit.
● Understand how to perform a basic breeding soundness examination
in mares in a first opinion setting to optimise breeding outcomes.
● Understand common causes of reproductive inefficiency and how they
can be avoided.
The webinars will be held on Wednesdays at 7 pm on the following dates: 8th October, 22nd October, 19th November, and 26th November.

The UCDVH Webinar Series took place on June 25th!
We were delighted to welcome back Monica Augusto (DMV MSc(Clin. Onc.) DipECVIM-CA MRCVS) as our guest speaker. Monica is one of our small animal internists and holds advanced certification in clinical oncology on top of her ECVIM diploma.
Her talk focused on the investigations of oral masses, aimed at improving early diagnosis and management of oral tumours in our companion animals.

We celebrated our veterinary nurses and recognised their invaluable contributions to veterinary medicine. Education and ongoing professional development play a vital role in empowering veterinary nurses and promoting excellence in their field.
We were therefore delighted to welcome Alicia Reid (RVN BSc(Hons) VN CertVNECC) as our guest speaker. Alicia is one of our dedicated ICU nurses and holds advanced certification in emergency and critical care. She plays a key role in delivering nurse-led education to both undergraduate veterinary and veterinary nursing students, as well as to clinical staff.
Her talk focused on the latest updates to the RECOVER guidelines, aimed at improving cardiopulmonary resuscitation in veterinary practice.

Feline chronic enteropathies are different and cats like to do everything their own way. Our speakers covered all the aspects of the heart diseases and available diagnostics and screening in horses!
