UCD Careers Network - Vacancy Handling Policy
The UCD Careers Network is the central point of contact for employers seeking to recruit UCD students and graduates for part-time jobs, internships and graduate vacancies.
Our vacancy procedures are informed by policies and position statements developed by our professional associations:

The UCD Careers Network also draws on generals policies and legislation on Equal Opportunities and Minimum Wage obligations.
MyCareer
(opens in a new window)MyCareer is UCD’s student career management and job search portal.
- It is accessible to current students, recent graduates and alumni, up until 2 years after graduation.
- Companies can access this system free of charge to advertise their vacancies.
- By creating a company profile, employers can enhance their brand visibility and students can follow organisations and set preferences to receive vacancy alerts.

Mandatory Requirements for Advertising Vacancies
To advertise a vacancy on UCD Careers Network’s MyCareer platform, employers must provide the following mandatory information:
- Contact name and details
- Company email address
- Link to company website
- Job title and description
- Closing date for applications
- Salary information
- Clear outline of the application and recruitment process
Terms & Conditions
- Vacancies without a closing date will be removed after 12 weeks.
- Salary information must be disclosed, as it is a key factor influencing applications. If not provided, “N/A” will appear in the salary field.
- The employment contract is strictly between the employer and the student/graduate.
- UCD Careers Network acts solely as an advertising platform and accepts vacancy information from employers in good faith.
- UCD Careers Netork is not involved in the recruitment process and accepts no responsibility beyond the accuracy and quality of information provided.
- UCD Careers Network staff review vacancies to ensure they are appropriate for UCD students and recent graduates. We reserve the right to edit or decline to advertise any vacancy.
Vacancies we Accept
- Graduate roles with immediate or future start dates (within 12 months).
- Paid internships and work experience programmes (summer, trimester, or year-long).
- Part-time, term-time roles that comply with minimum wage legislation.
- Experienced-hire positions.
- Funded opportunities for current or prospective Masters or Doctoral students (e.g., scholarships, studentships).
- Roles suitable for Postdoctoral Research Fellows or Contract Research Staff.
- Current vacancies from recruitment agencies where:
- specific, accurate role details are provided, and
- the employer's name is disclosed to UCD Careers Network for internal quality assurance (the employer’s name will only be shared with students if the agency agrees).
Vacancies we do not Accept
- Self-employed or commission-only roles.
- Any role that does not comply with minimum wage or equal opportunities legislation.
- Recruitment agency vacancies where the employer is not disclosed to UCD, or the agency has not been formally commissioned by the employer.
- Recruitment agency vacancies lacking specific, accurate, and complete role details.
- Roles requiring students to pay fees or make any upfront financial investment.
- Advertisements relating to J1 work and travel visas, or similar programmes. Enquiries of this nature should be directed to the (opens in a new window)UCD Students’ Union.
- Roles that are illegal or conflict with UCD’s policies, goals, or objectives.
- Roles that pose a direct risk to the health and wellbeing of students or graduates.
- Unfunded Masters or PhD research projects.
- Unpaid volunteering opportunities outside minimum wage exemptions; these should be directed to UCD in the Community.
Additional Notes on Advertising Vacancies
To maximise reach, vacancies advertised on MyCareer may also be promoted via:
- UCD Careers Network recruitment fairs
- University open days and other relevant events
- Careers Network publications and materials at Belfield and Blackrock (Smurfit Graduate Business School)
- Targeted email bulletins to relevant student and graduate groups
- UCD Careers Network social media channels (LinkedIn, Instagram)
- Targeted newsletters, including:

- UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School newsletter – shared with Smurfit Graduate Business School students (contact: (opens in a new window)smurfitcareers@ucd.ie).
- Graduate Researcher Bulletin – shared with doctoral and postdoctoral students and staff (contact: (opens in a new window)tara.hughes@ucd.ie)
- College and School bulletins – emailed to students in specific Colleges or Schools.

This ensures maximum visibility to UCD students and graduates and supports employer branding on the careers platform. Events and other Opportunities
Employers wishing to promote events or non-vacancy opportunities (e.g. insight sessions, programmes, competitions) may submit details to (opens in a new window)careers@ucd.ie.
