School PhD Scholarship 2026

The PhD programme offered by the School of Computer Science in UCD is designed to develop your talent and knowledge while you work on a research project under the supervision of academic experts in the field. The programme combines learning, teaching, and research activities to equip you with the right skills to enhance your career prospects in both academia and industry.

Scholarship

The duration of the Scholarship is 4 years and includes an annual tax-free stipend of €25,000, research travel expenses of €3,000 to carry out the project, a new laptop and academic fees.  In addition, all doctoral candidates will do some demonstration and/or teaching assistant hours in the school as part of their career development.

The PhD programme starts in September 2026 if you are offered a scholarship.

Eligibility

The minimum requirements to apply are:

  • A 2.1 grade (or equivalent) in an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Science, or a similar technical discipline.
  • Programming ability.
  • English test for non-native English speakers, or proof that you carried out your studies through the medium of English within the last two years
  • Other specific requirements are outlined in the Project Descriptions offered this year
