2019 Call for Applications for scholarships to U21 Summer Schools
Applications for the U21 Summer School scholarships are now open. APPLICATIONS FOR ALL SCHOLARHIPS CLOSE ON 5TH APRIL 2019 at 12:00 NOON.
UCD is offering scholarships for the following three Summer Schools:
University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus International Summer School
Number of scholarships available: 2
Date: 2 – 17th July 2019
Based at the University of Nottingham’s award-winning countryside campus just outside Kuala Lumpur, this Summer School Programme offers opportunities for students wishing to undertake short-term study abroad while learning about Malaysia’s wonderful and varied culture first hand.
Students can choose from the following modules:
- Politics, Culture and the Media in Southeast Asia
- Doing Business in Asia
- Beginning Creative Writing
- Intensive Mandarin for Beginners
This scholarship includes:
- A travel bursary of €1,100 towards travel costs
- All tuition fees
- Accommodation in a single room
- Some social and cultural excursions, including a day tour of Kuala Lumpur
Eligibility criteria:
- UCD degree-seeking students from any discipline
- Enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student in Year 2 or above

University of Amsterdam Summer School
Number of Scholarships Available: 6
Dates: 3-4 weeks in June/July 2019
The University of Amsterdam (UvA) offers a range of summer programmes in the heart of the city. UvA offers inspiring courses and academically challenging programmes that will introduce you to a new academic discipline or complement your existing studies. The courses from on interdisciplinary themes in which UvA excels. Students can choose from a range of programmes. Applicants can view available courses here.
The Scholarship includes:
- A contribution bursary of €1,750 towards all costs e.g. flights, accommodation, fees
- It is estimated that the cost for each participant to travel to and participate in the UvA programmes will range from €1,200 to €2,100. If the overall cost of the trip (including flights, accommodation and fees) exceeds the scholarship amount of €1,750 then the participant will be responsible for making up excess payment
Eligibility Criteria:
- UCD degree-seeking students from any discipline
- Enrolled as a full-time undergraduate in Year 3 or above, masters or PhD student

Shanghai Jiao Tong University Summer Programme
Number of scholarships available: 2
Dates: Session A: 11th – 26th July
Session B: 11th July – 2nd August
Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) is a research-intensive university established in 1896 which is home to over 60 undergraduate programmes covering 9 major disciplines: economics, law, literature, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management and arts. The SJTU Summer Programme is an academic and deeply cultural experience where students will gain professional insights of academic, a detailed understanding of Chinese culture and much more.
Students can choose from the following modules:

- China’s Policy on Climate Change, Energy and Environment
- Social Welfare Policies and Practices in Modern China

Session B (11th July – 2nd August)

- Reversing Climate Change
The Scholarship includes:
- A travel contribution of €1,000 (if airfare exceeds this amount it is the student’s responsibility to pay the excess)
- Tuition fees for the full course
- Please note that applicant will be responsible to pay for accommodation and any other costs

- Full-time UCD degree-seeking undergraduate student in 1st year or above & masters students
