2019 UCD Global Photo Competition Launched

This September, students are settling back into the beautiful, bustling campus at UCD, venturing out into the thriving capital city of Dublin, soaking up the culture and history of Ireland and some are even taking on exciting educational experiences abroad. Fresh photo opportunities are everywhere at this time of year and we are delighted to launch the 2019 UCD Global photography competition, with the top prize being your food/groceries paid for two whole months!*
'To UCD and Beyond' is open to all current UCD international students and current UCD students who have been on exchange overseas.
Speaking about the competition, Director of UCD Global Dr Douglas Proctor said, “Now in its second year, this photography competition helps the team in UCD Global to learn more about what you've seen and what it's meant to you as a global citizen. When you're new to a city or a country, you see things in a different way - and this alternative perspective is a crucial part of learning about other cultures and peoples. Given the calibre of the entries last year, I can't wait to be one of the judges for "To UCD & Beyond" in 2019."
Encouraging photographers of all levels to get involved, winner of the competition last year Rohit Gupta told us, “To be honest, I am not a photographer or someone who always carries a DSLR wherever I go, but having said that I enjoy clicking pictures when I see something beautiful and worth capturing. I suppose most of us do that. Sometimes we don't realize that the picture we click on our phone sometimes turns out to be as great as a picture clicked through a professional camera. ”
Students can enter in any of the four categories, which are:
- My UCD
- Vision of Dublin
- Timeless Ireland
- Destination Abroad
The competition closes at midnight on Friday 15th November. To enter, students must upload a photo to Facebook, Instagram or Twitter using the hashtag #ToUCDandBeyond, accompanied by the hashtag of the category - #MyUCD #VisionofDublin #TimelessIreland #DestinationAbroad
A high-res copy of the photo must also be emailed to international@ucd.ie accompanied by details of the photo’s location, your UCD student number, and a short caption (<120 characters).
Three finalists will be selected from each category, with the winning photograph decided by a judging panel. A people’s choice trophy will also be awarded, with the winning photo selected by followers of UCD Global’s Instagram.
