2022 APPLICATIONS OPEN FOR SCHOLARSHIPS AT YENCHING ACADEMY

The Yenching Academy of Peking University, China, is currently accepting applications for the 2022 cohort of Yenching Scholars. 

The Yenching Academy is an elite postgraduate college of Peking University (PKU), located in Beijing, China. It hosts the Yenching Program —informally known as the "Chinese Rhodes Scholarship"— a highly selective, fully funded global fellowship programme, designed "to cultivate leaders who will advocate for global progress and cultural understanding." 

The Academy offers Yenching Scholars, selected annually from around the world, a full scholarship for one year of study leading to a master's degree from Peking University. During their studies, Yenching Scholars will live in Yenching Academy, a residential college of Peking University, built specifically for the program and modelled on those at Harvard and MIT in the United States and Oxford and Cambridge in the United Kingdom.

APPLICATIONS PROCESS

All UCD students and alumni must apply through BOTH UCD’s internal application process and the Yenching Academy admissions portal. 

UCD Application Process: 

Provide the following documents via email to che.smith@ucd.ie.

  1. Personal statement (750 words or less);
  2. Brief statement of Research Interest (between 750-1000 words);
  3. Curriculum Vitae;
  4. Two (2) letters of recommendation. 

In the subject headline of your application email, please indicate your ‘Full Name’ and ‘2022 Yenching Academy Application’.

Deadline: Wednesday, 18 November 2021 (12:00 noon Irish time).

Yenching Academy Application Process: 

Applicants must register and apply online at: YENCHING Admissions Website 

  1. Personal statement (750 words or less);
  2. Statement of Research Interest (maximum 1500 words, excluding citations). Should include key research question(s), background to study and/or summary of literature, and study design.
  3. Curriculum vitae (max 2 pages);
  4. Official transcript(s)
  5. Diploma(s) or Certificate(s) of Enrollment
  6. Two academic letters of recommendation (English or Chinese)
  7. Demonstrated English proficiency if not English native speaking or completed a degree taught in English (IELTS - Academic: Overall 7.0; TOEFL (iBT): Overall 100; Cambridge English Scale (Advanced): Overall 185. Submission of English scores: 

Deadline: Friday, 03 December 2021 (12:00 noon Beijing time).

SELECTION PROCESS:

Applications will be administered by the UCD Global Partnerships Officer (China) and thereafter submitted for internal review and final decision by a panel Chaired by UCD's International Dean for China. UCD will recommend the top candidates to Yenching Academy.

Successful candidates will be contacted by Yenching Academy, between December 2021 to March 2022, for an interview. Candidates can attend interviews online or in person at Peking University.
