UCD launches new resource for students seeking internships in languages industry

The UCD School of Languages, Cultures & Linguistics has launched a new self-service localization resource to assist students seeking internships within the languages industry. This exciting platform has been developed by Bettina Migge and Eva Kilar-Magdziarz, with support from the UCD Global Engagement Seed Fund.

Localization is a fast expanding global industry focussed on the adaptation of digital content to different cultural spheres, and is becoming increasingly popular with graduates. However, students find it difficult to source internships in the area due to lack of knowledge about the localization process and available roles.

The creators sought to bridge that gap by designing a platform that introduces students to the area and its many opportunities. They collaborated with Juan José Arevalillo of Hermes Traducciones y Servicios Lingüísticos, Spain, to craft their Seed Fund submission and build the platform. The resulting resource can be used for teaching or as a stand-alone support, and provides a model for how other UCD Schools could approach localization in their areas.

This project is a great example of the potential for small scale global engagement partnerships between university and industry, and demonstrates the strength of our community’s imagination.

If you have an idea for a global engagement activity or interest in developing an international collaboration, the next call for applications to the UCD Global Engagement Seed Fund is expected in spring 2022.
