UCD to join Una Europa, European University Alliance

Una Europa has announced that UCD will join its alliance of leading European research universities. Established in 2018, Una Europa was among the first Alliances selected to receive European Commission funding under the prestigious European Universities Initiative. The alliance has pioneered a Europe-wide living lab of over 20 innovative educational formats, with mobility at the core.

As a new member, UCD will join ten Una Europa partner universities, all of which have strong established links with UCD. Collectively, the alliance now comprises of over half a million students and almost 100,000 university staff among its network, which transcends geographical borders, working together towards a virtual “multi-campus”- a University of the Future.

Global engagement is one of UCD’s defining characteristics, and permeates every aspect of university life, shaping the experience of students, faculty, and staff, and advancing the global outlook of the UCD community.  Professor Dolores O’Riordan, UCD Vice-President for Global Engagement, has welcomed the announcement, and said:

By linking outstanding research to transnational learning and innovative critical thinking, Una Europa will create a European campus way of life. This vision for a truly European inter-university environment speaks to the overarching objectives of the UCD Global Engagement Strategy. I am excited at the possibilities that membership of Una Europa brings for our students and staff.”

Una Europa will open a gateway to foster key UCD priorities, including mobility, diversity and inclusion, multilingualism, research and impact, and civic engagement. It will also provide opportunities to develop a collaborative research and innovation ecosystem by building a common research and innovation agenda, developing joint strategies for sharing infrastructures, and strengthening human capital.
