UCD students awarded travel bursaries for Universitas 21 Summer Schools

UCD Global recently ran a call for travel bursaries to allow outstanding UCD students of all levels to participate in summer schools at our Universitas 21 (U21) partner institutions.

Over 50 students from a range of academic disciplines applied for travel bursaries to enable them to partake in the U21 summer schools. Following a competitive selection process, the following students have been selected to represent UCD at the University of Amsterdam, the summer school of their choice:

  • Bianca Munteanu (2nd year undergraduate, Midwifery);
  • Fergal McGinley (1st year postgraduate, Geospatial Data Analysis);
  • Jordan Gaffney (2nd year undergraduate, Sociology and Social Policy);
  • Phoebe O’Leary (1st year PhD, English, Drama and Film);
  • Rain Cleary (2nd year undergraduate, Psychology);
  • Sarah Jones (2nd year undergraduate, Law);
  • Zhihui Ren (2nd year PhD, Architecture, Planning and Environmental Policy).

The students will be travelling to Amsterdam to participate in a range of inspiring and academically challenging courses in the heart of the city during the month of July. The students will take part in courses such as The Circular City: Towards a Sustainable Urban Ecosystem, Summer Institute on Sexuality, Culture and Power to the People: Activism and Grassroots Organising which are designed to introduce students to a new academic discipline or build on their existing studies.

For all the selected students the opportunity to attend the summer school courses presents them with a chance to learn and immerse themselves in a culture that is different from their own. For some, this is their first opportunity to take part in an international study programme, while for others it is a chance to further expand their global perspective. We wish every one of them the best with their summer school and we congratulate them on their success.
