Una Europa–Africa Partnership Seed Funding Call 2023

Are you a UCD researcher interested in discovering how you can connect with researchers across Africa to advance your academic career? Join us for a webinar on Thursday 26th October to launch the Una Europa–Africa Partnership Seed Funding Call 2023.
Una Europa is an alliance of 11 European universities, including UCD, who share the common goal of developing a truly integrated European University of the Future. This Seed Funding Call, co-developed by Una Europa and a number of African universities, is an opportunity to embark on an intercontinental research partnership.
Established academics and early-career researchers from the 11 Una Europa partner universities, including UCD, and the following participating African universities are invited to take part:
- Eduardo Mondlane University, Mozambique
- Kampala International University, Uganda
- Makerere University, Uganda
- University of Ghana, Ghana
- University of Johannesburg, South Africa
- University of Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo
- University of Nairobi, Kenya
- University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa
A mobility fellowship embedded in the Seed Funding scheme will support an established researcher at one of the participating African universities to bring their expertise to an Una Europa coordinating university in the role of chair. Professional development opportunities for early-career researchers will be an integral feature of successful projects.
The Seed Funding Call will support joint projects in education, research and innovation, and societal outreach across Una Europa's six Focus Areas: Cultural Heritage, Data Science & Artificial Intelligence, Europe and the World, Future Materials, One Health, and Sustainability.
Full eligibility details, along with the Call text, will be published after the webinar, which takes place at 2pm Irish time on Thursday 26th October. At the webinar, you'll discover:
- The research funding on offer
- The proposal submission process
- How to build new collaborations with research partners from Una Europa and participating African universities
The deadline for submission of proposals is 20th February 2024.

Una Europa–Africa Seed Fund networking event
To learn more about the Seed Fund Call and network with UCD research colleagues, come to an Una Europa coffee morning (9am to 10am) on Wednesday, 1st November in the UCD Global Lounge.
Meet your peers, ask questions about the Africa Seed Fund and discuss other Una Europa research opportunities. Coffee, pastries and snacks will be provided.
