Graduate Research Board
The academic governance board for all graduate research students
What is the Graduate Research Board (GRB)?
The Graduate Research Board (GRB) is the academic governance board for all graduate research students within the University and meets monthly to consider policy and strategic matters impacting graduate research students. Membership of the GRB includes academic representatives from across all Colleges as well as student representatives.
The voice of the student is critical to the initiatives and policy developments of the Board and a new student representative will be sought from August 2025. If you have an interest in being involved in this activity then please (opens in a new window)complete this form or contact (opens in a new window)grb@ucd.ie for further information.
The GRB meets monthly to consider policy and strategic matters impacting graduate research students, as well as submissions from Schools for individual graduate research students. Examples of types of submissions (once approved at School level) that may be considered for graduate research students include:
- Award of Credit for External (Concurrent) Learning
- Award of Credit for Prior Learning
- Thesis Embargoes
- Change in Major or Programme
- Extension of Graduate Research Study
- Stage Progression (see PhD Lifecycle)
- Leave of Absence
- Non-Standard Admissions including Graduate Research Re-admissions
- Examination Committees (which, if approved by the GRB, are submitted to ACCE for final decision).
Information on policies and regulations that apply to graduate research students can be found on the Graduate Studies document repository. Graduate research students should engage with their supervisor (or RSP if appropriate) in the first instance regarding all submissions which require final approval of the GRB.
