The 2nd Annual Spanish History Lecture, The world is not enough. The Irish in the Spanish global empire will be given by Prof. Dr. Manuel Lucena Giraldo (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, Madrid) at University College Dublin, School of History.

Profile of the Guest Speaker:

Prof. Dr. Manuel Lucena-Giraldo is a professional historian-researcher in the Spanish Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC), and Adjunct Professor in IE Business School/IE University. He was the representative of CISC at the European Science Foundation. He was a Visiting Scholar at Harvard University, and a Visiting Professor in Stanford University, Tufts University (Boston), Javeriana University (Colombia), IVIC (Venezuela), Colegio de Mexico, University of the Andes (Chile and Colombia) and a Visiting Fellow at St. Anthony´s College (Oxford). He had been Education Attaché in the Spanish Embassy to Colombia. His publications include a number of books on historical travels, scientific expeditions, cities, images of nations, empires or globalization. He is co-author of The Oxford Illustrated History of the World; Professor of Writing (non-fiction) in Penguin Random House School; Assistant Editor in Culture & History; Member of the board in Hispania Nostra, Revista de Occidente and the Advisory Committee of National Geographic in Global History. He is a member of the Spanish Royal Academy of History in Madrid, of the Colombian Academy of History and of the European Academy.
