Notice - 1st October 2021

The second tranche of places will be released in stages this afternoon/evening. We plan to release the examinations between 5.30pm and 7.30pm in 30-minute intervals.  

This tranche will again prioritise registrations for people living on the island of Ireland.  There will be a later tranche that will accept bookings from those outside Ireland but again places will be limited.

Please Note:  Due to COVID-19 resource restrictions, there is a reduction in the number of places available for the December examination compared to previous years.  For December 2021 all JLPT Bookings are PROVISIONAL pending confirmation of residency on the island of Ireland (and, for those under 18 years of age, confirmation they are in 4th Year Secondary Level or higher).  We will contact applicants by email at the address used to register for the examination.  The decision of the JLPT Operations Committee is final.

Notice - 26th September 2021

We are happy to announce that we will hold the JLPT Examination on the University College Dublin Belfield Campus on Sunday 5th December 2021. 

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, there has been a reduction in the number of places available for the December examination. For this year, we will prioritise registrations for people living on the island of Ireland. 

The online booking system will open this week with the first tranche of places.   Please keep checking our website during this week.   

We will comply with all regulations in place at the time of the examination, and this could also mean cancellation of the examinations.  If UCD Japan has to cancel these examinations a full refund will be made. 

All candidates will have to adhere to all COVID-19 regulations and bring proof with them on the day of the exam.

JLPT Online Application
Apply in September for JLPT December 2019 examinations here.  Please read the following carefully:

  • The official deadline for applications is Friday 8th October. However, individual levels may close earlier if the number of applicants reaches the maximum.  Therefore we highly recommend you submit the application as early as possible to secure your place.
  • Any applicants requiring Special Arrangements should contact Japan@ucd.ie on or before Thursday 30th September.  Please be aware that the deadline for requesting special arrangements is earlier than the general deadline.
  • Once you complete the application, it is NOT possible to cancel or to defer the test to a later date.  So, please plan carefully before applying for the test.
  • It is NOT possible to change your level after you complete the application.
  • The test fee is NOT refundable under any circumstance (please read the "Fees and Payment" section below).
  • DO NOT fill in the paper form which is attached to the Test Guide.  All applications are done online.
  • UCD Japan will comply with all COVID-19 regulations in place at the time of the examination, and this could also mean cancellation of the examinations.  If UCD Japan has to cancel these examinations a full refund will be made. 
  • All candidates will have to adhere to all COVID-19 regulations and bring proof with them on the day of the exam.
  • All candidates must use face coverings at all times, practice hand hygiene on entering the examination hall and have proof that they are fully vaccinated.
  • For December 2021 ALL JLPT Bookings are PROVISIONAL pending confirmation of residency on the island of Ireland (and, for those under 18 years of age, confirmation they are in 4th Year Secondary Level or higher). UCD Japan will contact applicants by email at the address used to register for the examination for proof of status.  The decision of the JLPT Operations Committee is final.

Fees and Payment
You make payment via the UCD online link in the application process.  The fee is €90 for all levels.

No refund will be available under any circumstances once your payment has been accepted unless cancellation is made by the Japan Foundation or UCD. Read the JLPT Test Guide for the terms and conditions of the JLPT exam.

Level change requests are only accepted before the application deadline and must be made in writing to Japan@ucd.ie

After completing the online application those applicants who need special arrangements for the test day should contact japan@ucd.ie to request a special application form.
