The Importance of landscape architecture - A form of healing in a hospital setting

The hospital is properly equipped, but inpatients and staff have little space. The only green space is underused due to main road noise and traffic. The main entrance can be opened to people by removing the busy two-way main road and using the one-way back road. This eliminates outdoor parking. Inpatients and staff will benefit from this.

The importance of a patient’s and medical workers comfort was pushed to the side during the middle of the twentieth century as the reliance on medical technology increased. Additionally, the patient’s proximity to nature was ignored at this time.

These days, the physical space in a hospital is designed for various pieces of equipment rather than for the care of patients. In this modern industrial era, we are forced to navigate our way through a poisonous brew of environmental, high-pressure school, and work deadlines each and every day. This is also seen in hospital and health facility workers. When we immerse ourselves in natural outdoor settings and spend time in wooded places, our problems seem to evaporate. We experience less stress, and as a result, our emotional well-being improves in ways that are therapeutic for both our mind and body. One of the most potent elements of nature is its capacity to give rise to a wide variety of blessings and advantages. There is something deeply established in our DNA that makes us long to be in the natural outdoor forest.

Paracelsus, a physician who practiced in the 15th century, believed that “the art of healing comes from nature not from the physician”. It is often believed that the most remarkable examples of this can be found in cities that have successfully integrated natural elements for such objectives.
