UCD Prof Jonathan Dodd & Dr Stephen Keane, co-authors, publish DISCHARGE Trial BMJ today

'Comparative effectiveness of initial computed tomography & invasive coronary angiography in women & men with stable chest pain & suspected coronary artery disease' published in BMJ today.

The collaborative imaging trial between Cardiology and Radiology disciplines across Europe showed that the prevalence of obstructive coronary artery disease was similar with either CT or ICA, both in women and in men. Professor J Dodd & Dr. S Keane, comment that "In men, CT as the initial diagnostic test instead of initial ICA was associated with a lower risk of an expanded MACE composite and in women, initial CT was associated with a lower frequency of major procedure related complications compared with initial ICA."
