There is ongoing stigma in society associated with mental illness, and also with suicide. Lived Lives is a longitudinal science / arts community intervention research project which addresses stigma through its ability to contain, mobilize and actively engage communities sensitively, inclusively and with compassion.
A mediated, interactive talk about the impacts of the Lived Lives project within communities will take place on Tuesday 14th March 2017 at 6.30pm in the DLR Lexicon Studio Theatre as part of the week long Mental Health and the Written Word event. Places are limited and counselling support will be available.

A seminar on the topic of Consent, Capacity and Medical Treatment will take place on Thurs 15 Feb 18 from 17:30 – 21:00 at the Merrion Hotel. The seminar will address current medico-legal best practice in Ireland in relation to consent in medical treatment and will compare this with best practice in the UK. The Assisted Decision Making Act will come into law in Ireland shortly and we will also touch upon how this new Act will affect the taking of consent, the determination of capacity and what this means on the ground for practitioners. The Seminar will be chaired and addressed by the President of the Medical Council of Ireland, Dr Freddie Wood.
The UCD Social Medicine Society presents Ideas for Change 2018 on Thursday 1st March 2018 from6:30pm in C006, UCD Health Sciences Centre. Ideas for Change is an interfaculty team competition. Four teams will compete against each other to come up with the best and most innovative solution, idea and proposal related to the chosen social medicine topic and will be judged by a panel of experts. This year's topic is: “Beating the binge: How to tackle the nation’s substance abuse problem?”
