Prunus

Prunus (Cherry)

A genus of small to medium sized trees generally referred to as Cherries but they also include the ornamental Almonds and Plums. They were commonly used as street trees but the roots of some species in particular the Japanese Cherries (Prunus serrulata) caused severe damage to kerbs and paving. Depending on the species or cultivar Cherries flower from December /January to May/June. Most have pink or white flowers, while some develop vibrant autumn colour.
