Artur, a Bachelor of Commerce student originally from Budapest, Hungary, joined a distinguished cohort of young change-makers to explore solutions for global inequality and injustice. The programme, created by the Forum for Study Abroad in association with the Nobel Prize Museum and UCD Quinn School, brought together top student leaders to engage with Nobel Laureates, industry experts, and policy influencers in a collaborative, cross-cultural setting.

The three-month programme concluded with a trip to Stockholm, where Artur and his peers attended the renowned Nobel Dialogues—a gathering that unites some of the world’s brightest minds to discuss society’s most pressing challenges.

“The Future Nobel Laureate Scholarship programme is one of many global opportunities available to students at UCD Quinn School,” observed Dr Maeve Houlihan, Director of UCD Quinn School.

“The School prioritises transformational learning experiences and embracing our world as a way to educate future leaders to truly create a better future together.”

When we see students like Artur, already a global citizen, truly leaning into an opportunity like this, and determined to share their learning, bringing it back to Quinn this is what we mean by the power of building a global classroom.”

During the programme, Artur had the opportunity to network with fellow scholars from across six continents, attend keynote discussions with Nobel Laureates, and explore Sweden’s rich cultural heritage.

“For me and most of my peers, the trip to Stockholm was the highlight of the programme,” said Artur. “This week-long experience was packed with exciting experiences like visiting the world leading Berghs School of Communication, getting to know local change-maker visionaries and learning about the inspiring life experiences of our fellow scholars in person. The trip allowed us to learn about the origins of the Nobel Foundation at the Nobel Prize Museum, attend the inspiring Nobel dialogues and tour the beautiful city of Stockholm with an experienced guide.”

With an international upbringing spanning Hungary and Denmark, Artur has always been passionate about cross-cultural collaboration. His previous work—including facilitating AI workshops for Ukrainian refugees in Ireland—inspired him to apply.

“Throughout my time at UCD, I have continuously pondered the way I would like to impact the world,” Artur shared.

“I applied to the FNLS programme to explore this curiosity, learn about the role of cross-cultural problem-solving in reducing global inequity and learn from some of the brightest change-makers in the world. Learning to integrate into new cultures was not always easy for me, but it broadened my perspective in ways I could have never imagined. These experiences further helped me to see first-hand the impact that purposeful collaboration can have on people's lives.”

Artur highlighted three key benefits of this experience:

  • Global Network of Connections - Connecting with incredible peers, thought leaders and change-makers from around the world - a chance to collaborate with the world leaders of tomorrow.
  • Once-in-a-lifetime Experience - Hearing Nobel Prize winners discuss our most pressing global challenges was a touching experience. Travelling out of country: the shared meals, city adventures, and countless learning opportunities also allowed our cohort to create incredible memories together and form deep connections.
  • Invaluable Cross-cultural Learning - The 10 other FNLS scholars participating in the programme are some of the most driven and global-minded individuals I have ever met. Our group represented six continents altogether and this provided unprecedented insight into our cultural diversity and unique perspectives.

Artur also emphasized how learning from fellow scholars expanded his vision for social change. “The scholarship offers the opportunity to collaborate with exceptional leaders from around the world on key global issues of injustice and inequity.”

“For me, I believe the greatest opportunity to have a positive impact on others came from reshaping my mindset. Learning about the collectivist perspectives of my peers has inspired me to strive for impact in my broader community. Learning about the work of fellow scholars on issues ranging from reducing homelessness in Ecuador to increasing the cultural inclusion of new mothers in Nepal massively broadened my ambition to have a positive impact throughout my career.”

For students interested in the Future Nobel Laureate Scholarship, Artur offers an open invitation to connect.

“This programme was a transformative experience, and I’m incredibly grateful to UCD Quinn School for empowering students like me.”
