Bachelor of Business & Law

The Business & Law (BBL) degree combines law and business into a single degree, providing you with an ideal skill-set for the commercial world and offering valuable career flexibility. BBL graduates are uniquely equipped with the analytical and advocacy skills that arise from a legal training, combined with the numeracy and financial literacy of a business degree.

The course is shared with the Sutherland School of Law, the leading centre for legal education and research in Ireland.  The School works closely with law firms, government departments and NGOs to boost employability and develop professional skills among our students as part of our careers development programme. Our students also benefit from the state-of-the-art Sutherland School of Law building which opened in 2013.

Student/Alumni Insight

Eileen Crowley Associate at White & Case LLP

“UCD's Business & Law degree is perfect for those of you who are still unsure about which career path to choose. This flexible course provides you with a wide exposure to key disciplines in the study of business while pursuing a law degree, allowing you to major in either subject during final year. My involvement with UCD Law Society, in moot court and debating competitions, was instrumental in my decision to major in law in my final year.”

Florian Niesel, Germany

“I chose to study Business and Law at UCD because I wanted to combine both legal and commercial studies in order to be able to work as a commercial lawyer in a multinational company. I wanted to improve my English and had visited Ireland during holidays before; I was aware that UCD is a very good university with a high reputation.

While it was daunting to study abroad in a different language, I quickly overcame the first obstacles. I met so many Irish people on my course and people from all over the world through on-campus societies. UCD is a high-quality university where a feeling of ‘team-spirit’ exists – you really feel like you belong.”

Garry Ringrose, Student

“I am a second year Business & Law student. The BBL modules are led by engaging and approachable lecturers who create a thought-provoking environment.

I’m heavily involved in extra-curricular activities (especially rugby) which are facilitated for, and encouraged by UCD. The BBL programme allows me to strike a balance between my demanding sport schedule and continuing my excellent degree.”
