Your Career, Your Future

The modern economy demands flexible and adaptable professionals. Graduates interested in business can pursue careers in: Accountancy, Finance, Tax Consultancy, Corporate Banking, Business, Analytics, Business Development, Marketing and Journalism, as well as opting for careers in NGOs and becoming entrepreneurs.

Graduates with requisite law modules who wish to become a solicitor or barrister can take further study post-graduation for legal professional recognition.

Internships

Business & Law students can complete a business summer internship for academic credit during the summer of stage 3. This 5-credit business summer internship module allows students to gain credit for professional workplace experience.

The module aims to provide students with the opportunity to reflect on and develop their personal and professional skills, and to gain an understanding of how the theory learnt in the classroom applies in practice.  Completing an internship not only allows students to develop their professional & personal skills but also helps to inform their career decision-making and enhance their employability.

Student/Alumni Insight

Emily Zampella Business and Law Student

“I chose UCD because of its good international reputation, and B&L due to the wide range of modules it offered. Living on campus in my first year allowed me to meet people from different programmes and really feel part of the UCD community. The most rewarding aspect of the programme was preparing teamwork projects, which helped us to develop fundamental soft skills like communication, flexibility and creativity, while making new friends at the same time.

B&L is a great choice for anyone who wants a solid academic background but prefers to keep their options open regarding their future career path.”

Florian Niesel, Germany

“I chose to study Business and Law at UCD because I wanted to combine both legal and commercial studies in order to be able to work as a commercial lawyer in a multinational company. I wanted to improve my English and had visited Ireland during holidays before; I was aware that UCD is a very good university with a high reputation.

While it was daunting to study abroad in a different language, I quickly overcame the first obstacles. I met so many Irish people on my course and people from all over the world through on-campus societies. UCD is a high-quality university where a feeling of ‘team-spirit’ exists – you really feel like you belong.”

Eileen Crowley Associate at White & Case LLP

“UCD's Business & Law degree is perfect for those of you who are still unsure about which career path to choose. This flexible course provides you with a wide exposure to key disciplines in the study of business while pursuing a law degree, allowing you to major in either subject during final year. My involvement with UCD Law Society, in moot court and debating competitions, was instrumental in my decision to major in law in my final year.”

Molly Coogan Student

I chose Business and Law as I knew it would open all kinds of doors for me. I felt that studying this dual degree would equip me with the best tools possible to tackle the business world.

Outside of my course, I turned to the wide range of societies and clubs to make new friends and I became an avid member of UCD Musical Society. Performing on stage as well as working on the committee has been one of my favourite parts of UCD.

In my third year, I had the opportunity to study abroad. I spent five months living and studying in Sydney, Australia. This must be one of the highlights of my life let alone my college experience.
